The major league baseball season is a long
grind and the 2012 New York Yankees are
once again viewed as a team to beat in the
American League. Overall the roster was composed
of familiar faces and some new talent in 2011. Thru
13 games the Yankees are ranked sixth in
the AL in batting average with a clip of.
.257. They lead the league in home runs
with 24 and are basically in the top 5 of
every other major hitting category. They
do rank second to last in stolen bases,
however. Overall the starting lineup only
has one player hitting over .300. Robinson
Cano is leading the way with a .315 batting
average and six doubles. He has 3 home runs
and 10 runs batted in with 32 total bases.
No one is surprised that Cano is hitting
very well. Mark Teixeira is leading the
club with 5 home runs and 14 runs batted
in. He does have 14 strikeouts and his batting
average is only .234, which are both lows
for the starting lineup. Derek Jeter came
into the season with a new hitting motion
but has since gone back to his old swing
since he has not been hitting the ball with
authority. As he ages the natural wear and
tear on his body has affected the motion
so bat speed has diminished. He is only
hitting .240 and has 0 home runs and only
3 runs batted in. It looks as though Jeter
will not hit over 10 home runs this season.
Alex Rodriguez has hit very well in 2011.
He has 4 home runs with 9 runs batted in.
His .385 batting average leads the Yankees
and the 32 total bases he has amassed is
tied with Robinson Cano as the team lead.
The major question this season is how the
five-man rotation will fare from the second
to fifth sports. Cece Sabathia is leading
the starting rotation in strikeouts and
earned run average with clips of 17 and
1.45 respectively. However he does not have
any victories. We carry great seats if you
want to see this number one pitcher. AJ
Burnett has 3 wins this season, which is
surprising considering his earned run average
is 4.67. His 16 strikeouts are second on
the staff. Freddy Garcia has surprisingly
played well as the fifth starter with an
earned run average of 1.29 but he has only
pitched 7 innings. Ivan Nova and Phil Hughes
have been ineffective as the third and fourth
starters as both players have the worst
and second to worst earned run averages
on the team. Of course Mariano Rivera is
the closer and he has been great as his
hall of fame career continues to move along
with no signs of slowing down. With 6 saves
and an earned run average of 0.00 he is
unhittable. Overall the pitching staff ranks
10th in the American League with and earned
run average of 4.54. Strikeouts and hits
surrendered are close to the bottom also.
Rivera only throws one pitch, which is the
cutter. With teams such as the Red Sox,
Blue Jays, Devil Rays, and Orioles the American
League East will be very competitive. The
Red Sox have been picked by many to be the
representative of the American League in
the World Series. After being winless the
first six games of the season they are fighting
to get to .500. The Rays will see a decline
in victories considering the turnover in
the their roster. The Blue Jays should finish
around the .500 mark and the Orioles are
rejuvenated with Buck Showalter.
New
Yankee stadium is one of the best ballparks
in the majors with a capacity of 52,000.
Many of the design elements are similar
to the old stadium. Monument Park is an
area dedicated to all the great retired
players of years past with monuments and
plaques. The stadium has 56 suites and boasts
a high definition video board that is 59
feet by 101 feet. There are lots of great
amenities including a wide array of restaurants
and concession stands. Boston should dig out of the early
season hole to compete with the Bronx Bombers
for the division crown. Regardless, New
York needs its starting pitching to deliver
in the playoffs. The past couple of postseason
failures are making fans frustrated so we'll
see how the pitching fares this season. No matter what type
of game experience you are looking for we
have a wide selection of New York Yankees
tickets.
